Right Now

Palmer is 2 months old!  He weighs 12 lbs. 11 oz. and is 23 3/4 inches long putting him in the 75th percentile for both weight and height.  He was born my biggest baby but is now smaller than Isla and Leo were at this age.  Isla was close to 13 lbs. and Leo was 15 lbs. at their 2 month appointments.  He is smiling all the time at us now and is really enjoying looking at rattles and other toys I dangle in front of him.   He still hates the car seat and car rides are no fun at all.  Palmer cries the whole time.  Leo sits next to Palmer and used to say, “All done” to Palmer which was his sweet way of saying, “Palmer, STOP CRYING!” Now he’s used to it and will even fall asleep close to naptime while Palmer is screaming at the top of his lungs.  Hopefully Palmer will outgrow this soon or our trips to and from Isla’s preschool will continue to be pretty brutal.  Palmer makes up for the car rides with is great sleeping skills.   He only wakes up once during the night to nurse.  I nurse and put him down all swaddled and comfy in his bassinet at 7 and he doesn’t wake up again until around 3 am.  Then he’s up for the day at 6:30.  I feel like we’ve settled into a good routine and can’t believe it only took 2 months.  We love our baby p-nut!

Leo is 21 months old and is our little parrot.  He repeats anything you say to him.  Some of my favorite phrases of his are,  “anky bear” for The Very Cranky Bear book, “ank you mommy”, “Hi Malner” for Hi Palmer, “good to see you”, “book peas”, “punkins” for the 5 little pumpkins book, and I could go on.  He is the sweetest baby/toddler in the world.  If we say no to him or get on to him for whining he puts his hands in his mouth.  It’s what he does when he’s nervous or embarrassed.  Then he makes his famous pouty lip face and eventually cries.  He hates for people to be upset with him.  He has such a tender heart.  I find it really hard to reprimand him because he’s such a softy, not to mention he has the cutest face on the planet.  Leo loves playing hide and seek as well as tag!  His giggle is contagious as you are chasing him down.  Lately he has to fall asleep with his “trains” in his crib.  He’s got some Thomas trains of various sizes that are like his comfort items.  He still clutches onto Bashful, the donkey, but the trains have to also be by his head.  It’s hilarious.  I love my first boy to pieces.

This little lady is 4 years and 2 months and is a barrel of laughs.  She’s got such a personality.  Isla is super strong willed and very stubborn but also caring, sweet, and loving.  She’s into picking out her own clothes and insists on wearing dresses or a pretty skirt everyday.  She also loves complimenting people and making friends.  She’ll see a complete stranger at Publix, Target, the pool, wherever and say, “I like your dress,” or “Wanna play with me,” or “Your barrette is beautiful.”  I love my angel and her beautiful heart and soul.

Right now I’m soaking up every second with these three joys of ours.

Angel Baby

I can’t believe he almost didn’t make it.  But he did, and my heart is completely full.  I could kiss his rose petal lips a thousand times a day.  Palmer, you are our miracle!

Simple Summertime

We celebrated Daddy last weekend.  Our amazing, wonderful, loving, giving, hard-working, Daddy!  I love you John and I think you know that your babies do too...

And they love their Papa and Coach too… Our daddies who made us who we are today.

We played in the yard last week practically everyday.  Kiddie pool, slip n slide, beach ball sprinkler, wash, rinse, repeat.

We had tea at Elizabeth’s Tea Room.  The cutest little tea room ever.  Gigi and I sipped sweet tea and ate quiche while Isla played dress up with Leo in the children’s playroom.  A little girl’s dream!

(Leo, Daddy hasn’t seen these photos and I’ll probably keep it that way.)

We loved on “P-nut.”  Palmer is 8 weeks old and is growing so fast.  My favorite thing he’s doing now is flashing the biggest grin at me when I lean over his bassinet in the morning to get him up.  When your morning starts like that, every day is going to be great!  He continues to love his big sister and she continues to be such a great help to mommy.

And yes, he looks completely different than Isla and Leo.  They got the Shea’s Irish skin tone and Palmer clearly got the Papa Halman characteristics of tan skin, dark hair, and brown eyes.  We love it!!!  And we are loving summertime!

Life is good!

Another reason among thousands more why I love having a girl are ballet recitals.  I remember when I was a little girl and getting so excited about recital day.  I got to wear makeup, I got to spray practically an entire bottle of hairspray in my hair, and dressed up in sparkly tutus.  It was the greatest experience ever!  I saw that same excitement in our little Isla Saturday night.  She knew it was her night to shine up on stage with all of her other “Fancy Nancy” costars.  The show was adorable and I couldn’t help but well up with tears when I saw my 4 year old Isla Shea doing plies and “shuffle-stepping” her little tap shoes away.  She was wonderful and adorable…

Palmer, on the other hand, isn’t so sure how he feels about ballet just yet.  In reality he just really hates his carseat and being in the car, period!

IMG_2933

But he loves being at home.  Palmer is 6 weeks old and we love him so very much!

He loves for Isla to sing to him and smiles every time she snuggles up to him.  She’s such a sweet lil mama.

IMG_2951

Palmer is my only baby who actually doesn’t mind tummy time for longer than 2 min.  He’s even rolled over a handful of times already.  I know it’s probably because he’s only like 11 lbs. but I’d like to think it’s because he’s a strong little guy and the next UF linebacker (behind Leo of course).

We are doing great and I can’t believe these three are mine.  Life is good!

Learning

We’ve been busy! I barely have enough time to eat much less catch up on our blog. But I want to write down all that’s been going on with us in the 5 weeks since Palmer came into our lives. They say time flies when you are having fun, well having 3 babies is TONS of fun, but it’s also pretty hectic. I can’t believe it’s been 5 weeks already. We’ve been busy learning. Learning how to be a family of five. This means teaching a 4 year old and 20 month old how to be gentle, not to kiss baby on the lips, to talk a little bit softer, to be patient while mommy nurses again, and so on. Learning a new daily routine has been challenging too but I think we finally have a good one going. Adding another angel to our family has definitely had its challenges but honestly it’s been easier then going from 1 to 2. I feel like in 5 weeks we’ve accomplished what took us 3 months when Leo arrived. Bedtime rituals are what have changed the most. Palmer seems to want to go down at 7:30, the exact time as his brother and sister. John and I used to take turns putting Leo and Isla asleep but now I’m nursing Palmer at that time. Some nights I get lucky and Palmer goes to bed at 7 or 8 so I do get to read my Leo and Isla their books and get in some snuggles but other nights I’m with Palmer. On those nights, I make it a point to still sneak into Isla’s room for some kisses and sweet words, and I pick Leo up out of his crib as he tell me to “ock you” meaning he wants me to rock him. So I do and think about how lucky I am to have love from 3 little ones. It’s amazing, this life I live. I am so blessed and love this learning-to-be-a-mom experience that I live each day. There couldn’t be a better lesson. IMG_2713 loves

Isla and Leo have also been learning how to fish…and they look pretty cute doing it.

Palmer loves bath time. He almost fell asleep in the tub the first night he was in it. I think he felt like he was back in the womb. Every time I place him in the warm water he immediately gets all wide eyed and calm. Then he’s out like a light. firstbath

The afternoons have been brutally hot here so we spend the time outside in our driveway playing in the hose. Leo stops each time a plane flies overhead to spot it in the sky.

We’ve also been spending our weekends at the beach…

Leo is 20 months now and really has developed so much in the past couple of months. His favorite things to do are play with his trucks and diggers, read books, and play outside. He can say anything you ask him to and has even started singing songs along with me. He surprised me and counted to 10 the other day too. Some of my favorite things he says are: “Be book” for read book, “awter” for water, “peas” for please, “dank you” for thank you, “eeeooowww” when he sees a plane. I just love this little man to pieces!!!

IMG_2801

Hopefully he graduates from swim lessons soon too. He’s been working really hard at it all spring and I can’t wait to see him put it all together.

Palmer’s latest milestone is his first smile. It made it’s appearance in our front yard while I was holding him when he was 4 weeks and 3 days old. Biggest, gummiest, smile ever. Since then he’s flashed a couple here and there and they are so precious to see. Just tonight he smiled several smiles at John for the first time. They melt your heart.
