The other night I tucked in our sleepy angels and watched their sweet eyelids flutter as they dreamed. Leo was probably dreaming of balls, trucks, and chasing animals outside while Isla was most likely dreaming of a pink and purple unicorn (b/c that’s what she wished for the other day.) I love watching my babies at night, they are so small, innocent, and peaceful and oh how I wish they would “never grow up.”
Morning came and after some snuggles on the couch while mommy and daddy drank coffee and watched the news, we made our way to the kitchen to decide on breakfast. Frosted mini wheats and strawberry milk were the winners.
After breakfast we went back into the living room and turned on cartoons while I made Isla’s lunch and got their clothes ready. Then I got them dressed in the living room like usual. Leo always goes first then it’s Isla’s turn. She hates getting off the couch after being in such a comfy position.
After I get dressed, we are ready to take Isla to preschool.
The rest of the day didn’t go quite so smoothly. I had a Dr. appt. which took about 1 1/2 hours (Dr. was on call) then proceeded to lock my keys in my trunk. This was the first time I had ever locked my keys away. Thank goodness Leo had his pacifier and I had my phone on me. John came to the rescue with the extra set of keys. By this time it was noon and we were both starving. We picked up Isla and met John and Gigi at Jason’s Deli. I got the babies home and down for their naps by 1:30 and passed out myself. We woke up to a beautiful afternoon and spent the rest of the day outside in our driveway. We colored, hula hooped, scootered, kicked balls, played chase with our 2 yr. old neighbor, watched ants build their hill, picked flowers, and made wishes on wishbone-shaped sticks. We had every intention to watch the space shuttle launch at 4:50 and kept looking up to see it but in the end we missed it because we were playing too hard.
Daddy pulled into the driveway and said, “Let’s go to dinner.” Isla and Leo were pretty dirty so John gave Leo a sponge down while Isla jumped into the kitchen sink for a quick sink bath. Now she wants to take one every night.
We went to Taco Lu for a dinner of chips, queso, tacos, and quesadillas. It was the most laid back family dinner we have ever had. We had a lot of fun and sweet Isla turned to me and said, “This is my favorite time of the day, with Daddy, Leo and you.” Love her! When we got home, it was time for a real bath and story time before bed. Isla and Leo performed a concert for us with their flutes and pretended to be monsters and scared mommy away.
Our days are precious together and I’m so blessed to call them my family. I really want to freeze these days forever and keep my babies little and by my side for always. Someday they will have to grow up…but not today.
